I logged in to my gmail this morning to find an email waiting for me from my study away adviser, saying that the friendly folks over at Oceanbarefoot Graphic Design in London want to see a portfolio of my work before they will accept me.
I was mildly amused, but really not surprised. Now I have to put together a portfolio on the internet to send to them. Looks like I should be hearing somewhat soon about my internship placement. I also emailed my study away adviser back to ask her if St. Martin's in the Fields is still an option. All the music people in my life think that would be a great opportunity, so I may as well look in to it.
Now, let's move on from there to the topic of job searching, which has been my main focus as of late!
I would like to briefly update you on the KCCR situation: Alex and I did not, unfortunately, get the Promotions Director position with KCCR for next year. I am sure that whoever the GMs chose will do a great job. They have to be good, in order to beat out Alex and me as a joint package!
I also did not get a position with the Mast, but that is very unsurprising as I do not have prior newspaper experience. Maybe I'll volunteer there next year.
I have, however, landed a summer job at PLU, working in the Development office. This is very exciting, because finding a summer job at PLU is very tough this year! So I'm not too down in the dumps about not getting the KCCR job. And I assure you, my lovely listeners, that I will continue to dedicate the same time and energy to my show next year.
I will also be working in the PLU library come fall, and it is official that I will have my own television show with KCNS next year! This, folks, is a paid position. =) I'm thinking about titling my show Live with Sarah Wise, and am now looking to recruit friends to help me with my show. We'll see how that goes.
Well, that's all for this update. I have a plethora of jobs and I have to put together a portfolio today to send to my potential internship.
See you soon.
Sarah's Cross-Atlantic and Cross-Country travels are documented in this blog, from a semester in London during her undergrad to her graduate work in Savannah, Georgia. It may also contain the occasional griping about mundane things in her everyday experiences; oh, how we do love our double meanings.

Job Updates
This evening, I had my joint interview with Alex for the Promotions Director at KCCR next year. Alex and I are applying together for next year, as we will be studying away for different semsters next year.
Hilary and Emily, our fearless GMs, are also splitting their position. Emily will be studying away in the fall (like Alex), and Hilary and I will be in London in the spring. So the two of them interviewed Alex and me. Alex and I suggested that we have our interview over dinner, offering the GMs a chance to eat in the middle of their long, exhaustive interview period!
The interview was fun and laid-back, and I think that it went really well. Alex and I work well together, and we balance each other out. We are also very enthusiastic and full of several great ideas, and we offer different abilities, so we can help and teach each other. Hopefully we get the position!
I also have an interview tomorrow with The Mast for an editor position for next year. I have never worked for a newspaper before, but I have always been interested in it. This would be a fun new experience! So we will see how that goes.
One more student media job opportunity is coming up, and that is KCNS. I am interviewing with the GM of KCNS, Andrea, on Tuesday. We will discuss my show plans and ideas for next year. This one I know I will probably get. Andrea has been telling me for months how much she would like to get me on my own show at KCNS! This is rather exciting, and lots of good news!
I also have an interview with the PLU Development office tomorrow morning, so hopefully I can get a summer job out of the deal.
Basically, my week is full of job interviews and final projects. Somehow, I also have to squeeze in the rest of my concerts for concert attendance for my voice lessons. Thank goodness school is almost over.
That's all for this update. Sorry it was a little uninteresting...but right now, that's all that's going on my life!
Head on over to The Motion of the Ocean to see what I've been doing in my Publishing class!

Job Searching
Searching for a summer job in this economy is no fun. I have hardly even tried outside of PLU, because I know that that will be a madhouse. Everyone is desperate. So I am applying to anything and everything on the PLU student employment page that looks feasable.
The frustrating part is the fact that I have two existing jobs. Why do I even need to search for a summer job? Because PLU is cutting back on their student employees. KPLU is keeping only one student, and I don't have the seniority to be that one student. Student Life will not know until sometime this week if they will need a student employee or not. If they do, I get the position, as the only local employee. But if they don't, that position also will disappear just in time for summer.
Oh well. I'll keep trying at it and we'll see what comes along, I suppose.
In the meantime, school is wrapping up, and I only have two shows of Dead Air left for this year. Better take a look at my nifty links tab (on your left) and mosey on over to my Dead Air livejournal page to listen to my past shows.
I'm also waiting to apply to be a show producer at KCNS for next year. Hopefully the lovely GM Andrea will get the application posted online soon!
This reminds me: I have an interview to be the KCCR promotions director for next year this Wednesday. I will update here after that interview!
That's all for now. I suppose no news is good news, but I would really love to start hearing news back from my interviews and applications, so I may pass it on here.

No Computer, No Job...
Well, the computer idea that Dad and I had did not go as planned. So I will not be getting a new computer until fall, most likely. But that's alright, because I would not have received the software early enough to be useful, and I'm not quite ready to part with Rufus yet. Dad's doing some more research regarding my needs, and he might be able to find better deals. Also, as it turns out, apparently Apple is considering lowering their prices in August for back to school, so they can compete price-wise with Microsoft. So that is looking good.
I currently do not have a summer job to work on saving money for my study abroad trip, which is very frustrating. KPLU will only be keeping one student for the summer, and I'm third in line with seniority. I do not get the job unless Laurie becomes unavailable. Emily lives in DC, so I get bumped up to second in line for seniority.
The Student Life office, however, may be able to keep me as a summer employee. They have to wait until Monday, when Barb comes back, to figure out if they will need extra help during the summer. Luckily, I'm the only local student employee, so I would get the offer if needed!
I have also applied to work at the front desk of the PLU pool, as well as applied for one of ten positions during the summer in the PLU Office of Development. I'm hoping to hear back from one of those regarding an interview soon. I also had an interview last week with KJR for an unpaid summer internship. So that is a possibility as well, but I'm more focused on finding a paying job that will allow me to save money for London.
That's all for now. Still waiting to hear about where I will be interning.
Finals week is coming soon, so I have been busy wrapping up my classes. Not much is happening regarding my study away plans, so this blog may be a bit empty for a while. I'll update random, exciting things though as I am able.
